Process

(Info: The process of binding involving the removal of stapler.  Why remove the stapler? Stapler may damage the book as it can get rust)

Steps to follow before binding:-
1. Prepare the materials need to be used for binding.  Some of the materials needed to do the binding process are displayed.

2.  Choose the technique that is suitable for the binding. The binding process involves few techniques.  However, before any binding technique is used the early process of how to make the holes is vital.

        How to do the binding:

Hamdan B Syed Hassan
According to Pn Morni, of the Head of Conservation and Reprography Section at NAM, the suitable and easy techniques to be done individually at home or schools are the "saddle stitching" and "side stitching".  This can be done quickly and inexpensively in-house or at schools.
Here are some examples of the technique shown by En Hamdan B Syed Hassan, Assistant Conservator of National Archives Malaysia, Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur



These are techniques to do saddle stitching and side stitching.  There are the same.

3.   Over Casting
      Overcasting can be done to bind few sections. Suitable to combine few magazines so long it is not exceeded 1".








 3.  Prepare a cover suitable for the books.
      A suitable cover is needed to cover the binding books.  Rexin or Arlin paper is suitable to be the cover of the book binding. The process of doing the cover

 








4. Write the title of the book.
    After binding, put a title at the cover of the book binding.


This is the end of the binding process.  Try to do it yourself.
